A general meeting of the Plantation Owners’ Forum of Nigeria (POFON) was successfully held as scheduled at the Protea Hotel in Benin, Edo State, Nigeria. The meeting was graciously hosted by Aden River Estates Limited, with Mr. Emmanuel Ibru, CEO of Aden River Estates and Chairman of POFON, presiding over the session which was attended by members of POFON including Presco Plc, Agripalm, Okomu Oil Palm Company and representatives of the Wilmar group.
The agenda of the meeting covered a broad range of industry-related topics, aimed at addressing current challenges and discussing strategic actions to promote the growth and sustainability of Oil Palm Production in Nigeria.
Mr. Ibru emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among plantation owners to tackle pressing issues and drive sector-wide reforms. Members deliberated on the implications of the GIS-based land use demands and the need for collective representation in engaging with the Edo State government. Updates were provided on the status of state produce levies, with emphasis on ensuring transparency and fairness in the tax regime affecting plantation businesses.
A summary of the recently held symposium in Ghana was presented, highlighting emerging regional opportunities and technologies relevant to Nigerian plantation stakeholders. Members discussed plans for a strategic courtesy visit to the Edo State Governor, aimed at fostering dialogue on issues affecting plantation operations and exploring opportunities for state-level collaboration.
The forum reviewed progress on the national oil palm strategy and the importance of stakeholder involvement in the validation process. A brief session introduced Kingoya Harvesting machinery and tools relevant to plantation operations, with a focus on productivity and cost-efficiency. The meeting concluded with a closing prayer and appreciation to Aden River Estates Limited for their generous hospitality and commitment to sector leadership.
